The Department for International Development awarded a contract to the Overseas Development Institute for research on violence against women and girls (VAWG) in South Asia.

The contract, valued at £635,093.48, funds up to two multi-country studies to address key evidence gaps on VAWG, with topics identified by researchers and selected based on their ability to fill important evidence gaps, generate new knowledge, align with DFID's regional priorities, and contribute to effective policymaking.

The research complements the £25 million/5-year global What Works to Prevent Violence research and innovation programme, which funds studies in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and other regions.

The purpose is to generate high-quality contextualised evidence to inform the design and implementation of policies and programmes to address VAWG in South Asia more effectively.

The research is expected to benefit development stakeholders, with key recipients including country governments, DFID, international organisations such as the UN, academics, and NGOs.

Research results and their wider policy and operational implications will be synthesised and communicated to policy actors and practitioners locally, nationally, and internationally within the project timeline.
