Department for Education awarded a contract to National Children's Bureau for the design and delivery of a programme of targeted performance improvement and national training for local areas with weaknesses in their multi-agency SEND system.

The contract, valued at up to £4,036,285 (AUD 4,843,542), commenced on 1st April 2022 for an initial three-year term, with an option to extend for up to a further 24 months.

The programme aims to accelerate improvement in the quality and consistency of local area SEND service delivery for children, young people, and their families, and reduce variation in local area performance as evaluated by the Ofsted/CQC inspection framework.

It comprises two lots: targeted performance improvement and national training for local areas identified by Ofsted/CQC, and learning systems development including research, development, and dissemination of resources and models of effective practice to build an evidence base for exemplary practice within the sector.
