Commissioning body is seeking a theatre group to lead a pilot street-safety programme addressing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). The commission will involve workshops with young women and girls to co-develop and deliver street-based performances, ensure the work is trauma-informed by commissioning a specialist group throughout delivery, provide bystander intervention training in communities, and run a communications campaign to strengthen the message and increase reach, covering research and development through to delivery and evaluation. The programme responds to local and national evidence including: 182 young women raising concerns about gender-based violence, 158 identifying feeling at risk from boys and men because of their gender, findings that 51% of girls aged 13–18 received unwanted sexual comments (33% among 13–14 year olds), 29% first experienced sexual harassment aged 11–13, and a 2023 Plan International survey showing over three quarters of young women and girls avoid activities or change behaviour during summer to reduce unwanted sexual attention.
