Tender: Ethnographic Study of Car Dependency in Birmingham – Healthy Streets
Released 11 days ago
About
Birmingham City Council is seeking a supplier for an ethnographic research study exploring residents' lived experience of car dependency in Birmingham. Commissioned by the Public Health Built & Natural Environment team as part of the Healthy Streets: Public Health Car Dependency Study, the research will examine how social, economic, environmental and street conditions influence travel choices — including barriers to walking, cycling and public transport — and will capture experiences across Birmingham’s diverse communities, including those facing transport-related inequalities and poorer Healthy Streets outcomes. The appointed provider will conduct ethnographic methods such as interviews, accompanied journeys and observational research to produce in-depth insights and participant case studies to inform the development and co-design of Healthy Streets interventions that support the Birmingham Transport Plan and Road Harm Reduction Strategy. The contract commences 1st December 2026 for a period of 4 months, and bids must be submitted via the Council's In-tend e-tendering system; the deadline for the request for quotation is noon on 6th November 2026.
