Tender: Enrichment Resources for DfE Best Start Free Breakfast Clubs – Academic Year 26/27
Released 6 months ago
About
The Department for Education is seeking a supplier for enrichment resources and voucher-based options to support its Best Start free breakfast clubs, helping primary pupils start the day ready to learn in the 26/27 academic year. The programme, which began with 750 early adopter clubs in April 2025 delivering a free 30-minute club and healthy breakfast and entered national rollout in April 2026 with a further 500 schools (with more joining in September), aims to make breakfast clubs more fun and enriching for Reception, Key Stage 1 (ages 5–7) and Key Stage 2 (ages 7–11). The DfE is interested in light-touch, child-led activities across five categories—express creativity, explore the outdoors, be active, connect with the wider community and develop wider life skills—and is particularly looking for physical resources such as toys, board games, activity kits, books, arts and crafts supplies, sports and outdoor equipment, as well as voucher-based options like gift cards or redeemable credits to let schools choose resources that suit their pupils and available space. Resources will support schools as they set up free breakfast clubs and welcome pupils at the beginning of the new school year.
