Provision of Design Assurance Technical Services to Active Travel England

About

National Highways awarded a contract to WSP for the provision of design assurance technical services to support Active Travel England (ATE).

The contract, valued at AUD 500,000, involved reviewing and inspecting a portfolio of cycling and walking schemes at key stages of the scheme lifecycle, from bid proposals and preliminary design through to completion, and making recommendations to ATE on design issues.

WSP also supported ATE in enforcing higher standards in scheme design and implementation by developing tools, guidance, and research/evidence, with specific reference to the Department's Cycling Infrastructure Design Guidance (LTN 1/20) and other relevant guidance.

Additionally, WSP provided support to the ATE spatial planning team in assessing major planning applications to ensure adequate provision for cycling and walking in new developments.
