Life Cycle Carbon Assessment of Sustainable Geotechnical Measures for National Highways
Awarded 24 Jan 2025
About
National Highways awarded a contract to Atkins JV for a comparative life cycle assessment of sustainable geotechnical measures (SGMs) on its network.
The work continues from TO-348, which assessed life cycle carbon costs of commonly used SGMs, and expands to include additional solution types such as crib walls and sheet piled walls, as well as low-carbon options rarely used.
The contract may involve liaison with manufacturers on carbon reduction and recycling, and considers SGMs associated with widening techniques, particularly for embankments (e.g., mass concrete walls, crib walls, sheet piles, reinforced soil).
A simple carbon comparison tool may be produced to enable quick, high-level environmental impact assessments of SGMs.
The contract value is £128,177.47.
