About

Historic England Limited awarded a contract to Wild Strawberry Interactive Multimedia Ltd for the recording and creation of an art installation project at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings.

The artwork 'Flaxmill Voices' was researched by the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings prior to 2022 and scoped with artist Andy McKeown of Wild Strawberry.

The installation consists of audio recordings of the names of 2,090 nineteenth-century mill workers, recorded on site by 2,090 people and played in a large room through many directional speakers, accompanied by an audiovisual display.

The Mill workers were researched by the Friends' archive volunteer.

The contract value was £17,400.
