A commissioning body is seeking a theatre group to lead a pilot project addressing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) among young people by developing and delivering street-based performances co-created with young women and girls through workshops, commissioning a trauma-informed specialist group throughout delivery, providing bystander intervention training to the public, and running a communications campaign to strengthen the message and increase reach; the role includes research and development through to delivery and evaluation. Local and national research cited in the brief highlights concerns from 182 young women about gender-based violence, 158 young women reporting they feel at risk from boys and men because of their gender, findings that 51% of girls aged 13–18 received unwanted sexual comments (33% for ages 13–14), and that 29% first experienced sexual harassment at ages 11–13, while a 2023 Plan International survey found over three quarters of young women avoid activities in summer to reduce unwanted sexual attention.
