The Bernard Leach (St Ives) Trust Ltd is seeking a contractor to act as Principal Designer and Principal Contractor to manufacture, supply and install interpretation and exhibition fit-out works across the Leach Pottery site in St Ives, Cornwall, as part of a £10 million capital redevelopment. The contract value is £375,000–£400,000 (exclusive of VAT) and will be delivered under the JCT Intermediate Building Contract with Contractor's Design (ICD) 2024, with Practical Completion due 4 June 2027 and the site opening on 18 June 2027. The scope covers four main packages—setworks and 3D elements; display showcases (including Government Indemnity Scheme standard cases); graphics and 2D elements; and exhibition lighting—working across Grade II listed Pottery buildings, 2008 extensions, new learning studios and reception areas, outdoor spaces and cross-site wayfinding, and requiring coordination with the client, base build contractor Dow Jones Architects, interpretive designers Extended Studio and a separately appointed AV contractor (AV hardware and software are out of scope). Key procurement dates include compulsory site visits 28 April–7 May 2026, clarification deadline noon 11 May 2026, submission deadline noon 22 May 2026 (submissions to Sara Matson at [email protected]), interviews 3–4 June 2026 and contract award 8 June 2026; bids must include the Form of Tender, Submission Questionnaire, Pricing Schedule, proposed programme, responses to five quality questions, and required policies, insurance and certifications, and will be evaluated Quality 65% / Price 35%.

This is suited to contractors with proven museum/exhibition fit-out and listed-building experience who can fulfil Principal Designer/Principal Contractor duties; key considerations include the compulsory site visit, coordination with multiple design and base-build teams, compliance with Government Indemnity standard showcases, delivery under a JCT ICD 2024 contract, and meeting the specified procurement and on-site installation timetable with appropriate insurance and certification.
