About
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council is seeking a contractor to replace the existing shelter at the hand feeding station in Margam Country Park (Port Talbot SA13 2TJ) with a metal or timber green roof shelter able to support a biodiverse wildflower roof. The works include removal of the existing shelter (existing washing facilities to be repurposed where possible), ground preparation and a flat concrete pad, removal and replacement of approximately 8m of livestock fencing, construction of an enclosed shelter (back and one side) with habitat features (for example wood mounds/rockeries and water areas), pre-agreed native/local provenance planting, reinstallation of accessible handwashing facilities (including at least one basin with maximum rim height 850 mm, clear knee space, easy-use taps and clear floor space), provision of a temporary handwash station during construction, bilingual signage (how to wash hands, safety for pregnant women around sheep, handwashing after handling animals), a 12-month post-installation maintenance programme for plant establishment and watering, and a 12-month defect correction period after completion. The contractor must ensure the shelter is watertight and can support the saturated weight of a green roof, comply with the GRO code, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, relevant British Standards and fire safety requirements including BS EN 13501-1, and meet Building Regulations (Wales) Part M and Equality Act 2010 accessibility duties (including design and installation of ramps/handrails if required). Design work is to start in September 2026, planting is scheduled for November–December, and completion is required no later than 1 January 2027. Knowledge and experience in Green Infrastructure and delivery of similar projects is essential. Request for Quotation documentation can be requested from Sarah Williams at [email protected].
