UK Cereal Pathogen Virulence Survey (UKCPVS) Research Contract Awarded to John Innes Centre and NIAB
Awarded 01 Jan 2019
About
Defra Network eTendering Portal awarded a contract to John Innes Centre and NIAB for the continuation and development of the UK Cereal Pathogen Virulence Survey (UKCPVS) over three years, with a contract value of £599,965.
The UKCPVS, established in 1967 after an epidemic of yellow rust in wheat variety Rothwell Perdix, aims to detect new pathogen races at an early stage to prevent widespread epidemics.
The research monitors changes in virulence of major cereal foliar pathogens and assesses their significance for resistances used in current varieties and breeding programmes, providing essential information for cereal variety testing programmes funded by AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds and the wider industry.
The work is funded by AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds, APHA, and in-kind contributions from plant breeding and agronomy companies.
