About

Cefas awarded a contract to Bruker UK Ltd for the provision of multiple portable Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectrometers under the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP), a UK Government-led bilateral aid initiative under the £500m Blue Planet Fund.

The instruments support the creation of in-country microplastic laboratory facilities and are used for polymer identification and cross-analysis in microplastic monitoring programmes.

The contract covers three units for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Centre for Coastal Management (CCM) at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, and Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh, with installation and onsite training contributing to capacity building for microplastics analysis.

The contract value is £250,000 and may cover additional units for other locations under the programme.
