About

Aston University awarded a contract to COHERENT EUROPE BV for the procurement of one femtosecond laser system to replace an old Ti:Sapphire regenerative amplifier laser at the School of Engineering and Physics.

The equipment is required to produce laser pulses comparable to or better than the current source, with specifications including a 1 kHz repetition rate, 800 nm central wavelength, pulse duration under 150 fs, pulse energy of approximately 1 mJ, M^2 less than 1.2, and a 5 mm beam diameter.

It must also deliver stable pulses with root-mean-square deviation (RMSD) below 0.5% for pulse-to-pulse energy over more than 2 hours and feature a user-friendly control panel or interface.

The contract value is £230,000.
