About

Ministry of Justice awarded a contract to Action for Children for pregnancy and mother and baby unit services at Her Majesty's Prison and Young Offenders Institution HMP Askham Grange during the custodial period, prior to and immediately following release.

The service includes nursery services for babies and general support for mothers and pregnant women to engage with parental responsibility in custody and access appropriate community support.

Strategic aims include preventing separation between mothers and babies eligible for a Mother and Baby Unit placement, identifying and responding to individual needs, promoting parenting support, enabling engagement with the prison regime, raising awareness among prison staff, ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing, and liaising with community support services for continuity on release.
