The Ministry of Defence awarded a contract to the University of Birmingham for participation in an innovative partnership for the mTBI-Predict Baseline Variability Study, a long-term cohort study on mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).

The study will assess the accuracy, reproducibility, and practicality of various biomarkers—including brain imaging, Magnetoencephalography (MEG), cerebral physiology, blood and saliva markers, headache, mental health, vision, balance, and cognitive performance—by following 800 patients for 24 months after a new mTBI.

The University of Birmingham leads the UK TBI consortium, which includes experts from Imperial College London, University of Nottingham, University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire, and the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre.

The contract value is AUD 2,000,000.
