Hedge End Town Council is seeking a Principal Contractor to upgrade and resurface an approximately 350m permissive woodland footpath within Wildern Local Nature Reserve, including construction of an all‑weather self‑binding gravel path, boardwalk sections and associated drainage, with careful management of surface tree roots and installation of raised walkways where necessary to protect sensitive habitats and ensure accessibility. Tenders must be submitted as a fixed price lump sum on the provided Form of Tender and returned either in a sealed envelope bearing no company identification and marked TENDER FOR Footpath Upgrade in Wildern Local Nature Reserve to the Town Clerk, 2000 Centre, St John’s Road, Hedge End, Southampton, SO30 4AF, or emailed to [email protected], and must be received by 2 February 2026 (noon). Tenderers should liaise with Brett Athow, Operations Manager, on 01489 780440 or [email protected] for queries. The successful contractor must supply a copy of public liability insurance, a company Health and Safety policy, evidence and two references of previous experience on similar sites, and a brief summary of the approach to minimising environmental impacts and protecting local biodiversity; Hedge End Town Council does not bind itself to accept any tender, reserves the right to delete items if the tender exceeds the budget, and will not pay for tender submission expenses.

This opportunity is suited to contractors with experience building woodland paths, self‑binding gravel surfaces, boardwalks and drainage in ecologically sensitive areas who can provide insurance, H&S documentation and references. Key considerations include working sensitively around tree roots and habitats, demonstrating an environmental/ecological protection approach, meeting a fixed‑price lump‑sum requirement and the firm submission deadline of 2 February 2026 (noon); the council may reduce scope if bids exceed budget.
