Queen’s University of Belfast is seeking a supplier for a high accuracy, high performance, multifunctional large-volume co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM) for automated dimensional inspection of large-volume, high-value manufactured components for local aerospace, civil, maritime and green technology industries. The CMM will serve as an all-purpose flexible system for inspecting tooling and fixturing, machined parts, composite structures and assemblies, with capability to access deep features and to scan and measure complex free-form shapes. The machine must deliver flexibility, high throughput, high accuracy and high reliability with minimal maintenance, be installed in a dedicated climate-controlled metrology laboratory while also being equipped with a temperature compensation system and protection from airborne contaminants, and be initially supplied with an automatic indexing probe head plus tactile probing and tactile scanning. Connectivity, controls and software must support addition of other sensors in future (such as laser scanners, non-contact sensors, optical sensors or surface roughness probes) and enable automatic interchange of multiple sensors and styli. The machine will be used primarily for research purposes, resulting in lower hours run compared to a manufacturing environment.
