The Standards and Testing Agency (STA) is seeking suppliers to re-establish a Modified Tests Framework from 1 February 2027 to 31 January 2031 to develop and deliver modified versions of national curriculum tests for children with visual impairments, hearing impairments and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Suppliers must provide modified tests in formats including modified large print and Unified English Braille (UEB), covering Phonics Screening Check (braille version only), Key Stage 1 tests in English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, English Reading and Mathematics, Key Stage 2 tests in English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, English Reading and Mathematics, and Key Stage 3 English Reading, with specific tests to be confirmed in each call-off and subject to government policy changes. Suppliers are also expected to produce assessment reports with recommendations for item modification, amend mark scheme guidance for consistent marking of modified live tests, perform braille proofing and quality assurance of Grade 1 and 2 UEB versions, and operate a specialist helpline to answer queries, facilitate on‑demand orders of past Braille materials and replacements for reception baseline resources, and validate and facilitate late modified test orders for the incumbent Test Operations Supplier.
