A service in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan is seeking a third sector organisation with established links to unpaid carers to deliver a three-year model of short breaks and small grants. The programme funds a Short Breaks Community Facilitator (approx. £40k) to map UK, Wales-wide and local short break services, hold 'what matters' conversations, link unpaid carers to existing opportunities and facilitate small grants or short breaks where appropriate, alongside approx. £20k specifically for direct short breaks to meet those with the most significant need (covering hotel breaks, activities, experiences, hobbies or items deemed a 'break' rather than household costs, and to fill identified local gaps such as starting peer support groups and covering associated revenue costs). It also provides approx. £80k for third sector grants to support organisations delivering a variety of offers for unpaid carers, including peer-support groups, with an expectation that funded organisations coordinate with the Short Breaks facilitator so gaps in provision can be identified and addressed.
