St George the Martyr, Queen Square, WC1N 3AH is seeking an architect-led, multidisciplinary design team for the restoration and renewal of its Grade II* listed church as part of a major National Lottery Heritage Fund supported capital project to safeguard the building's future. The commission covers repair and conservation work following the partial collapse of the Hawksmoor ceiling in 2018, and includes restoring that ceiling, addressing wider historic fabric repairs, transforming underused interior spaces, improving accessibility and environmental sustainability, and developing new facilities for community and commercial use. The appointed team will work with the Parochial Church Council (PCC) through RIBA Stages 1–7; the architect will act as Lead Consultant and Principal Designer, coordinating sub-consultants such as structural and M&E engineers, access and fire consultants, and acoustic and lighting specialists, and advising on and procuring site surveys during the development phase.

This could be ideal for architect-led multidisciplinary practices with proven heritage conservation experience and the capacity to act as Lead Consultant/Principal Designer across RIBA Stages 1–7 and to coordinate structural, M&E, access, fire, acoustic and lighting consultants. Key considerations include working on a Grade II* listed building currently on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register after a partial ceiling collapse, delivering conservation work within a National Lottery Heritage Fund supported capital project, and balancing accessibility and sustainability upgrades with protection of historic fabric.
