Released 2 months ago
About
Refurbishment contractor needed to carry out civil maintenance works at Skerry of Ness tidal station (58°56.960 N 003°17.830 W) and Hoxa Head on the Hoxa peninsula, South Ronaldsay (58°49.315 N 003°02.085 W) in Orkney. Skerry of Ness is a 10m post‑tensioned concrete column platform 200m offshore, accessible on foot at low tide or by boat at high tide; Hoxa Head is a 7m aluminium “splat” structure on land about 400m from the road end with field tracks nearby. Works are purely civil and include power washing to remove lichen and marine growth, concrete repairs and redecoration, repairs to GRP daymark panels and metalwork, replacement of corroded metal fixings (which may include ladders, handrails and fenders), and re‑stringing the existing fence; no electrical work is required and the optics must remain operational throughout. Contractors must hold IRATA rope access certification and attend a mandatory site visit in Orkney on 10 September (an additional opportunity to visit Hoy Sound is on 11 September); there are no welfare facilities at either station and all details and dates are subject to change.
