About

The Council is seeking a provider for an Appropriate Adult Service to meet its statutory duties under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (section 38(4)(a)). The service must provide Appropriate Adults for children, young people and vulnerable adults when a parent, guardian or other suitable adult is unavailable or inappropriate, safeguarding and promoting their rights, entitlements and welfare where they are detained and/or interviewed by the police.

Insight

This could suit organisations experienced in providing Appropriate Adults to support children, young people and vulnerable adults during police detention or interviews. Key considerations include meeting statutory duties under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (section 38(4)(a)) and ensuring provision of Appropriate Adults when parents, guardians or other suitable adults are unavailable or inappropriate.
