Derbyshire County Council is seeking a supplier for maintenance and repair works to the North Branch Culvert in Ironville, Derbyshire, which comprises three masonry arches (two in water) carrying the Midland Rail branch line over the River Erewash. The works are delivered in two phases: Phase 1 requires excavation behind the headwall, embankment stabilisation, removal and storage of existing masonry at track level or off site (stone cannot be stored at the riverbank due to the Environment Agency category 3 risk), construction of new training walls, desilting of the Western arch and disposal of excavated material so the river can pass through all three arches as requested by the Environment Agency. Phase 2 must be carried out within the Environment Agency's optimum timeframe between mid-June and the end of September, allowing the river to always pass through two of the three arches, removing arch faces, piers and cutwaters, constructing the reinforced concrete (RC) profile as indicated on the drawings, and rebuilding the headwall with reinforced fill, topsoil and grass seed.
