Tender: Met Office Purchase of Verified UK Nature-Based Carbon Removal Credits – Preliminary Market Engagement
Released about 1 month ago
About
The Met Office is seeking suppliers of verified UK nature-based carbon removal credits and is conducting a further Preliminary Market Engagement to inform its revised procurement approach. Following an initial PME in May 2026, during which clarification questions and responses were recorded at Annex A, the requirement has changed to verified UK nature-based carbon removal credits only. The Met Office is now considering the purchase of approximately £500,000 of such credits in FY 2026/27, with the credits intended to be retired in FY 2030/31 and a small proportion possibly retired earlier to offset business travel in customer funded programmes. The engagement will update anticipated procurement timelines, seek feedback on additional questions arising from the developed tender documentation, confirm terminology, and assess current market interest and capability; responses will be used solely to inform any future procurement strategy and documentation, will not be scored or used in future tender evaluations, participation does not commit the Met Office to a procurement or provide preferential treatment, and the Met Office will not be liable for participants’ costs.
