National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) is seeking suppliers for substation construction, underground cabling, overhead tower and wood-pole line construction and associated civils works, primarily for 33–132kV distribution network assets under a Major Projects QUDM. The QUDM may also be used by other National Grid group companies to procure works and services, and may be used to tender NGED's Major Projects Partnership for the ED3 price control period (2028–2033) set by Ofgem; no minimum volume of work is guaranteed. Typical project estimates are: Substation £200,000–£5m; Overhead Tower £500,000–£20m; Overhead Wood Pole £50,000–£2m; Underground Cabling £200,000–£10m; Civils £100,000–£5m, with multi‑disciplinary packages covering combined and the largest/most complex projects. Substation and underground cabling works will be awarded regionally across NGED's four DNO licence areas, while overhead tower, wood pole and multi-disciplinary works may be appointed nationally across the four licence areas. Scope requirements include outline and detailed design (including acting as Principal Designer under CDM 2015), lifecycle surveys, project/programme and site management (including acting as Principal Contractor under CDM 2015), enabling and site establishment, stakeholder and consents liaison, procurement and subcontractor management, temporary works, traffic management, landscaping, maintenance obligations and, where required, installation of telecoms ducts/chambers, fibre and communications tower bases.
