Tender: Langley Wood NNR Ash Dieback and Hazardous Tree Felling – Natural England
Released 3 months ago
About
Natural England is seeking a supplier to carry out tree felling and safety works at Langley Wood National Nature Reserve to manage ash dieback and hazardous trees along roads and footpaths. Work must be completed by 28 February 2027 to avoid disturbance to nesting birds and must follow specified ecological and operational safeguards: climbing ash trees is not permitted; a trained, qualified person must be on site to inspect Potential Roost Features (PRFs) for bats with supporting training documentation submitted with the quote; PRFs require inspection immediately prior to felling and work must stop if an active roost is identified while trees without PRFs may be felled without further inspection. Contractors must follow the Tree safety works 2026_27 spreadsheet markings (trees to be felled sprayed with correlating numbers; trees to be reduced or dead-wooded marked with a small yellow dot; secondary identification tags in some cases), leave main boles whole for felled trees of approximately 15 cm or more where not on a path or boundary, stack timber under 15 cm into 2 m lengths where convenient, record and not fell any PRF trees that cannot be checked due to access issues and submit that record to Natural England, avoid felling over the NNR boundary unless agreed in advance, minimise damage to adjacent trees (acceptable actions include coppicing hazel or felling birch to clear direction of fell and limited damage to oak branches below 10 cm provided no potential bat roosts are disturbed and no branches are left hanging), and follow vehicle access restrictions on the attached access map (vehicles only on hard standing; tracks suitable for ATV/quad bikes only; 4x4 pick-ups/Land Rovers only on purple tracks) with any track or ground damage made good at the contractor's expense.
