About

Wakehurst is seeking a landscape architect to design the Silk Road Steppe Landscape, a new garden that builds on the garden’s horticulture, conservation and scientific research strengths and reinforces Wakehurst’s reputation for ecologically inspired horticulture. The concept is inspired by the Silk Road—spanning over 800 km of ancient trade routes between Europe and Asia that traverse mountains, expansive steppes, cities and deserts—and aims to reflect the region’s floristic richness, the historic movement of edible, medicinal and timber species, and contemporary threats such as habitat loss, conflict and industrial agriculture. Estimated contract value is £1,700,000 including VAT.
