Guildford Borough Council is seeking information from cultural, community and commercial operators about interest and capacity to operate or lease the Electric Theatre in Guildford. The Electric Theatre is an iconic historic building, originally built as an electricity works in 1913 and converted into a theatre in 1997; it is currently vacant and the Council has assumed responsibility for the building and its holding costs. The Council has undertaken technical surveys and stakeholder engagement confirming the venue's cultural value and strong community aspiration for continued use as an arts and performance space, and intends to appoint an operator or leaseholder to run the venue on a lease or concession basis pending final classification. This notice is a preliminary market engagement to understand market capacity and appetite before the Council finalises its procurement route and minimum requirements and is not a call for competition or a commitment to commence procurement.
