Birmingham City Council is seeking an organisation to deliver the Compassionate Birmingham workstream, a core element of the Ageing Well Strategy to improve services and support for people who are dying, bereaved, grieving or caring. The role covers activities aligned to the Compassionate Cities Charter and builds on previous work such as arts and health approaches, supporting people dying alone in hospital, training for community organisations and funding death cafés. The contract will begin on 1 November 2026 for a period of three years, and the Request for Quotations deadline is noon on 29 September 2026.

This opportunity could suit organisations experienced in community bereavement, end-of-life care initiatives, arts-and-health projects, hospital bereavement support and community training or event delivery. Key considerations include meeting needs identified by local data (pre-pandemic estimates: ~30% of bereaved people need organised support, ~10% experience complex/prolonged grief, and 20–30% previously could not access support), aligning activity with the Compassionate Cities Charter principles, and complying with the Council's procurement timetable and submission requirements.
