The Welsh Blood Service is seeking a supplier for an advanced automated haematology analysis system to support blood donor assessment, blood component quality monitoring, and research and innovation activities. The required solution must provide automated full blood count (FBC) analysis, 5‑part white cell differential capability and integrated reticulocyte analysis on the primary analyser, and should be capable of generating data to support emerging donor health assessment methods including FlowScore calculation and reticulated haemoglobin analysis for early detection of iron deficiency in donors. The system must include advanced analytical features such as fluorescence platelet counting with high accuracy at low platelet concentrations, reticulated platelet measurement, low‑level white cell enumeration suitable for blood component quality monitoring, and the ability to perform blood component testing without separate instrumentation. Suppliers should demonstrate how platforms support routine blood component quality control through dedicated blood bank functionality and provide evidence of successful implementation within blood services, blood centres or comparable establishments; be supported by robust EQA/EQAS programmes with meaningful peer group benchmarking on the same analyser platform and methodology; demonstrate compliance with applicable medical device regulations and a mature quality management system; and offer resilient service and maintenance arrangements to minimise downtime and ensure continuity of critical testing services.
