Consultancy needed to assess the implications and resource requirements of emerging UNESCO World Heritage Site bids in and near Armagh City, Northern Ireland. The work concerns two transnational, serial nominations: the Royal Sites of Ireland, incorporating Navan Fort, and the Historical Astronomical Observatories of Ireland, incorporating Armagh Observatory and Planetarium. The remaining five components of the Royal Sites series are located in Counties Meath, Westmeath, Roscommon, Kildare and Tipperary, while the other two components of the Historical Astronomical Observatories are at Dunsink, Fingal (North County Dublin) and in Birr, County Offaly. Both nomination groups are included on Ireland’s most recent Tentative List. The pathway to World Heritage inscription is set out in four stages: Review and Preparation of the Tentative List; Preparation of the Preliminary Assessment and Nomination Dossier; Evaluation; and Decision by the World Heritage Committee.
