Cockermouth Town Council is seeking a supplier for minor civil works to create an accessible, surfaced route from Double Mills footbridge to the woodland behind Dale View, Cockermouth, closing a missing link that currently prevents access for pushchairs, wheelchairs and less-mobile pedestrians. Engineering drawings and technical specifications were prepared by Cumberland Council; works are programmed to start February / March 2027 (Spring 2027) or before and have an estimated duration of two consecutive weeks. The contractor must provide all plant, labour and materials to establish a temporary compound near the Dale View park entrance, close Footpath No. 223015 for the two-week period (Cumberland Council will meet closure costs), excavate a 50mm ground tray retaining topsoil, lay a heavy-duty geotextile membrane, install and compact a 150mm Type 1 granular sub-base and a 40mm 0–6mm crushed aggregate surface, saw-cut and tie into the existing macadam at chainage 0m and ensure a flush finish with the timber bridge deck, reinstate and seed path edges with an 80/20 wildflower mix, and follow the specified alignment relative to the park bench and trees. Bidders should note narrow access via Dale View restricts large HGVs and oversized plant, the works run alongside the River Cocker with a strict requirement to keep materials and plant at least 5 metres from the watercourse and to prohibit on-site refuelling/servicing/greasing, and contractors must work in generally dry conditions while monitoring local water levels and Environment Agency flood alerts.
