About

Defra Network eTendering Portal awarded a contract to Footprint Ecology for a visitor access study of Therfield Heath Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The study aimed to build a comprehensive picture of visitor activity across the SSSI, identify where visitor pressure may adversely affect wildlife and the environment, and recommend measures to resolve issues, enhance access, and minimise impacts.

It involved two parts: (A) using existing data and visitor surveys to determine visitor numbers, activities, routes, geographical and temporal distribution, visitor values, sphere of influence, and transport methods; (B) producing a Visitor Access Report summarising usage, behaviours, and values, identifying adverse effects and predicting future impacts, and recommending potential measures.

The contract value was AUD 18,586.
