Vegetation Clearance and Habitat Mitigation at Cinderford Northern Quarter
Awarded 27 Sep 2015
About
HOMES & COMMUNITIES AGENCY awarded a contract to Charlton Abbotts Forestry Ltd for vegetation clearance at the Cinderford Northern Quarter in Gloucestershire, involving the felling and clearance of mature trees and scrub over approximately 8.9 hectares, construction of four mitigation ponds, and creation of log piles, hibernacula, and basking bank areas.
The works were conducted under European Protected Species licences for Great Crested Newt and Dormouse, following a trapping and translocation programme that established exclusion fencing, pitfall traps, refugia tiles, and access channels.
Daily checks by the Employer’s ecologist team ensured areas were free of protected species before clearance.
The contract value was £87,610.98.
