About

Sheffield City Council awarded a contract to BR HAllworth Ltd and Underdog Software Ltd for the upgrade and support of the SPRUCE strategic traffic management software, including the provision of a SPRUCE development engineer.

The contract, valued at £40,000, covers the continued development and maintenance of a system used for bus priority and adaptive traffic control across over 250 sets of traffic signals in Sheffield.

SPRUCE, originally developed under the Department for Transport's UTMC01 project, operates on a PC to trigger temporary changes to fixed-time Urban Traffic Control plans based on detector demands, with data transferred to a host UTC system.
