About
Cefas awarded a contract to Mark Cornwell for estimating the survival rate of discarded juvenile and adult undulate ray (Raja undulata) caught in the Lyme Bay otter trawl fishery.
The study involved up to six days of fishing under charter between July and October 2017, with two scientists onboard, using data storage tags and onshore tank monitoring to assess post-release survival.
The findings were intended to support potential exemptions from the Landing Obligation under the high survival provision and to inform discard plans.
The contract value was AUD 2,160.
