Tagging of Lesser Black-Backed Gulls to Study Behaviour and Habitat Use in Ribble & Alt Estuaries SPA
Awarded 31 May 2017
About
Defra Network eTendering Portal awarded a contract to British Trust for Ornithology for tagging lesser black-backed gulls (LBBGs) from the Ribble Estuary breeding colony with Movetech GPS-GSM tags to obtain a detailed understanding of their movement patterns and flight height.
Although the work was successful, the BTO recommended that the University of Amsterdam Tracking System (UvA) offers a better option for studying flight heights of adult gulls, and eight UvA tags were subsequently purchased by Natural England through a further contract with the BTO.
The contract value was £32,722.
