About

Leicestershire County Council awarded a contract to Crowders Nurseries and James Coles & Sons (Nurseries) Limited for the supply of 800 trees for the Council's free tree scheme, which operates each planting season from October to February.

The contract, valued at approximately £20,000, was awarded directly to local suppliers after a tender issued from 12 December 2020 to 11 January 2021 received no bids, due to factors such as limited availability, supplier commitments to larger contracts like HS2, and a preference for supplying larger trees.

An additional 1,000 trees were reserved to ensure supply of popular species (oak, beech, lime) for the 2021/22 season at an estimated £25,000, bringing the total contract value to £45,000.
