Historic England awarded a contract to the University of Lincoln for research and copywriting on place-saving efforts during 1939-1945, exploring the extent to which place-saving on the home front was a national phenomenon.

The project involves estimating the number of places that survived WW2 bombing due to home-front efforts and the number of people who risked their lives to save loved places, compiling local stories of individuals and communities behind these numbers.

The research will be presented as 10 image-rich articles for Historic England's website, with a national geographic spread covering the South West, London, South East, East of England, Midlands, Yorkshire, North East, and North West, and a range of place-types.

The research supports public programming about the people who saved St Paul's Cathedral and Coventry Cathedral.

The contract value is AUD 13,813.
