About

Defra Network eTendering Portal awarded a contract to LGC for a two-part study on point-of-contact (POC) testing for food authenticity.

The first part involved a review of POC technology through a food authenticity lens, focusing on rapid tools to detect food fraud such as misrepresentation and mislabelling.

The review covered current and emerging POC tools, their fitness for purpose, opportunities for wider use including from other sectors, and areas needing further research and development.

The second part was a pilot study to trial new technologies and demonstrate the suitability of POC applications in the food chain, with experimental design focused on overcoming barriers to implementation and practical road testing of novel approaches for specific scenarios or products.

The contract value was AUD 134,582.
