About

Natural England awarded a contract to Bowland Ecology Limited for a desktop study to map nature sensitivity in the Rochdale and Oldham parts of the South Pennine Moors Special Protection Area (SPA) and Bowland Fells SPA.

The study collated existing data and information to create GIS data layers covering access points, wader hotspots, ground-nesting bird hotspots, golden plover foraging hotspots, and areas of zero trampling for newly reintroduced sphagnum mosses and bog plants.

These layers are intended for use in public-facing walking apps such as MapRun6 to highlight nature-sensitive areas, inform Impact Risk Zones, and be trialled with a local planning authority.

The contract value was AUD 16,000.
