Detailed design for Pont Ends River Restoration awarded to Fishtek Consulting by Environment Agency

About

Environment Agency awarded a contract to Fishtek Consulting for the detailed design of the Pont Ends River Restoration project on the Pont and Blyth Rivers in south Northumberland.

The contract supported design work to address long-term degradation of river and water-dependent habitats caused by historical management—extensive dredging, installation of flood embankments, channel straightening and land drainage—which had contributed to the Water Framework Directive (WFD) status outcomes across the catchment (14 waterbodies at moderate WFD status, seven of which were designated heavily modified, and one at poor status).

The design work specifically addressed measures to support improvement of the Blyth from Pont to Tidal Limit waterbody (GB103022077052), which was designated as a heavily modified waterbody and assessed as being at moderate WFD status.
