About

The Ministry of Defence awarded a contract to Volkerstevin Ltd for the design and build upgrade and refurbishment of the Mare Harbour Ro-Ro Facility in the Falkland Islands, valued at £19,136,917.

The works include a new quay structure for berthing and mooring of FIRS Point Class vessels, pedestrian access gangways, fendering and mooring equipment, minor repair to the stern ramp quay face, cathodic protection for retained sheet piled structures, a new small boats jetty with pontoon and linkspan, associated M&E services, and demolition of non-reused structures.

The design must accommodate logistical and environmental constraints at operational ports, achieve a 25-year design life, and comply with EU, UK, and Falkland Islands legislation.
