Continuation of the Gill Net Acoustic Monitoring Project
Awarded 22 Feb 2019
About
Defra Network eTendering Portal awarded a contract to University of St Andrews for the continuation of the Gill Net Acoustic Monitoring Project.
The study will investigate porpoise movements around static nets, addressing questions such as whether there is independent evidence of deliberate avoidance, how often porpoises come very close to nets, whether they feed on or near nets, and whether the presence of other species (dolphins) affects their behavior.
The research aims to enhance understanding of bycatch causes and support the development of effective bycatch mitigation measures, aligning with a Ministerial priority to reduce bycatch in UK waters.
The contract value is £59,920.
