Awarded Research Contract for Genomic Tracing of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreaks
Awarded 31 Mar 2016
About
The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs awarded a contract to The Pirbright Institute for research to trace the origins of foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks using sequence data.
The project has four themes: monitoring and mapping the global distribution of FMDV strains; exploiting next-generation sequencing to increase capacity for processing large sample volumes during future outbreaks; developing and applying phylodynamic tools to resolve FMDV demography; and developing tools to predict antigenic phenotypes from FMDV capsid sequence data.
The contract value is £1,288,060.
