Award of Meningococcal Genome Sequencing Analysis Contract to University of Oxford
Awarded 16 Jul 2017
About
Public Health England awarded a contract to the University of Oxford for Meningococcal genome sequence analysis using sonic shearing of DNA.
The work supports whole genome sequencing of Neisseria meningitidis for typing and enhanced surveillance following the introduction of Meningococcal B and ACWY vaccines into the UK routine vaccination schedules.
Oxford's use of relatively random sonic DNA shearing addressed issues with PHE's method, which produced fragmented draft genomes with fewer intact genomic loci.
The contract value was £13,910.64.
