About
Defra awarded a contract to UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) for the analysis of pesticides in urban honey samples.
The project involved sub-setting honey samples from the 2022 National Honey Monitoring Scheme archive, selecting 50 samples from May and October across urban-dominated landscapes with a gradient of urbanisation.
The contract required quantifying residues of key herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides, calculating and assessing risk quotients for urban honeybee hives, and comparing pesticide profiles with those from agricultural landscapes.
Additionally, eDNA analysis was integrated to identify potential pesticide exposure pathways and high-risk plant communities in urban environments.
The contract value was £49,458.29.
